Affliction’s Tom Atencio Questions Dana White’s Manhood, In So Many Words

Affliction VP Tom Atencio saw a rare opening to take a shot at UFC president Dana White during the press conference to promote “Ultimate Chaos” in Biloxi, Miss., and damned if he didn’t make the most of it.  Atencio’s entering into his second MMA bout against Randy Hedderick, who as far as we know does not run either an MMA organization or a t-shirt company.  And while it’s not exactly like fighting for a UFC title, Atencio points out that at least he’s got the balls to do it, unlike some other promoters:

“I’ve been seen in front of the cameras before as far as the business side, but it’s time to fight. I’m doing something Dana White won’t do and that’s fight. He talks like a fighter, so why doesn’t he fight? I’m stepping up to the plate and win, lose or draw I attempted it. I don’t ever think he would fight.”

Immediately after making this statement Atencio realized how badly he needs an entourage, as there was no one there to stand up and shout, ‘Oh, snap!  Dana White got told, son!’

So basically, that’s Atencio saying White isn’t man enough to get in the cage and be the tough guy that he plays on TV.  And yeah, you could point out that a) Atencio’s fighting Randy Hedderick, not Fedor, so get over yourself, and b) Dana at least appeared to be serious about boxing Tito Ortiz at one time, even if it ended up being too much ego for one ring to safely contain.  But Atencio’s point remains: he really lives the lifestyle he’s selling (at a 400% markup), while Dana doesn’t.

Dana’s problem is that even if he wanted to fight, where could he do it?  He obviously couldn’t put himself in a UFC bout.  Even if he wanted to, Joe Silva has some integrity, dammit.  If he fought for another, non-Zuffa organization that would really set a bad example for all the fighters he won’t give non-exclusive contracts to.  

Nope, there’s only one solution.  Dana White must cut down to 145 and fight Jens Pulver in the WEC.  It’s either that or allow women in so he can meet Gina Carano at a catchweight, and he’s not going to want to look at himself in the mirror after Gina puts a beating on him. 

Get training, Jens.  Put down the Pinkberry, Dana.
