MMA Oddsmakers Toy Our Emotions Re Lesnar vs. Fedor
(The baddest man in the world, or a living Archie comic book character?)
Here’s a newsflash for you: online sportsbooks favor Fedor Emelianenko to beat Brock Lesnar in a dream match that may never actually happen. They’re even giving you the opportunity to lay some money down on it now, despite the fact that you don’t know anything about the conditions of this fight or the fighters at the time of the bout, and if it doesn’t happen by October 3, 2010, you get your money back. Of course, you could just wait until the bout is actually scheduled to take place (if ever) and bet then, but that’s not as fun, is it? This is like betting on who’s going to win the Super Bowl next year, and choosing between two expansion teams that haven’t been accepted into the NFL yet.
So what kind of a chance are the internet bookies giving Fedor to keep his horseshoe firmly implanted in his a**? At the moment Emelianenko is popping off at -240, meaning you’d have to bet $240 to win $100. For those of you who don’t gamble due to religious/poverty reasons, that makes him the favorite.
Lesnar is currently a +190 underdog, meaning a $100 bet would net you $190 if he held Fedor down and kept his “fat little hips” from moving around on the mat long enough to batter his face.
So if we had to bet today, where would our money go? Don’t even have to think about it, son. Fedor all the way. Here’s why:
1) He’s used to being the smaller man in almost all his fights. 2) He’s got a much better takedown defense than Frank Mir, who has almost none. 3) He’s much more explosive on the feet, and Lesnar looked lost in his few moments there against Mir. 4) Lesnar made a powerful enemy when he insulted Bud Light. They brought down Nixon, and they’ll do the same to Lesnar.
