Sign of the Apocalypse #103: The UFC is Offering Full Refunds for UFC 147

After a string of injuries dramatically changed UFC 147, the UFC took the unusual step of offering full refunds to fans who had already purchased tickets for the event.

UFC 147 Ticket Holders Offered Refunds

The move followed significant changes to the card, including Vitor Belfort withdrawing with a broken hand. At the time, offering refunds because of changes to a UFC fight card was highly unusual.

The situation also raised questions about how the weakened card would perform as a pay-per-view event. UFC 55 had previously been one of the promotion’s lowest-selling modern PPVs, reportedly drawing a little over 125,000 buys.

Fans Had Three Days to Request a Refund

According to the UFC announcement, the refund window was limited:

With the change on the main card, fans who purchased tickets for the event will now officially have three (3) days to decide whether to seek a full refund.

Another UFC 147 Bout Is Cancelled

The UFC also announced another injury involving a TUF: Brazil competitor, which left Renee Forte without an opponent and removed his bout from the event.

Seven of the 11 bouts at UFC 147 will feature contestants from the first season of TUF Brazil. Due to the injury and the loss of his opponent, Renee Forte will be unable to fight and will make an appearance on a future UFC card. All bouts live and subject to change.

The refund offer underlined just how severely injuries had reshaped UFC 147 in the weeks before fight night.
