A UFC welterweight recently recalled training with Conor McGregor as a 17-year-old kid and shared what the Irishman was really like at the height of his fame.

The fighter in question is Jean-Paul Lebosnoyani. The American earned his UFC contract with a Round 1 knockout win on Dana White’s Contender Series in 2025 and has gone 3-0 since joining the promotion.

This past weekend at UFC Vegas 123, “Mufasa” locked in his first finish inside the octagon by turning Farman Hasanov’s face into a horror movie before the doctor stepped in and stopped the fight in the third round due to a nasty cut above Hasanov’s eye.

Jean-Paul Lebosnoyani Recalls Training With Conor McGregor

Earlier today, “Mufasa” on The Ariel Helwani Show recalled training with Conor McGregor for the first time and described the experience as a highlight of his “high school childhood.” He said:

“I had just eaten the most I’ve ever eaten in my life. As soon as I finished my meal, my dad calls me. He goes, ‘Conor’s at the gym. He needs you to train right now.’ I was like, ‘Oh my God, I’m gonna barf all over this guy.’ We did a bunch of jiu-jitsu rounds and trained for about two weeks before he met Dillon Danis. That was the highlight of my high school childhood.”

Lebosnoyani also told Helwani during the same sitdown that McGregor has stayed in touch and even congratulated him when he secured a UFC contract.

“Shout out to Conor. He’s messaged me throughout my career. When I got signed to the UFC, he wrote me a nice message saying congratulations.”

“Mufasa” confessed he has always found “The Notorious” humble and down-to-earth:

“When I met Conor, he was the most humble, down-to-earth guy. Obviously, there’s a lot of controversy with him, but I will always respect him. He has a special place in my heart. At that point, he was at the pinnacle of his career, and it was extremely inspirational how humble he was to someone like me.”

The 27-year-old then recalled training with Conor McGregor when the former UFC double champion was at the peak of his career. However, as per Lebosnoyani, despite all the fame and money, McGregor left his ego behind when he stepped on the mat:

“He would pull up to the gym in two Rolls-Royces, and the second he stepped on the mat, that whole persona, the whole ego, was just gone.”
